In Brief:
FIFA Collect will migrate from Algorand and Polygon to a custom Layer-1 chain built on Avalanche.
The move aims to improve scalability, wallet access, and long-term digital collectibles growth.

FIFA is making a major leap into blockchain infrastructure by launching its own Avalanche-powered Layer-1 chain, officially migrating its FIFA Collect NFT platform from Algorand and Polygon to the Avalanche ecosystem.

Originally launched in 2022, FIFA Collect allows fans to purchase and trade NFT-based soccer highlights. Now, the organization is building a dedicated blockchain to support its long-term Web3 strategy, citing performance, scalability, and EVM compatibility as key reasons for the switch.

“This move enhances our ability to deliver unique digital collectibles and immersive fan experiences,” said Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex and FIFA Collect. “It’s the most future-proof foundation for growth.”

According to Ava Labs, the custom Avalanche chain will allow FIFA to better serve its global audience, enabling easier wallet integrations, seamless asset transfers, and a flexible foundation for future NFT, gaming, and loyalty use cases.

“This is the largest sports league in the world launching their own chain,” said Ava Labs Chief Business Officer John Nahas. “It’s a step toward real-world blockchain adoption.”

While the migration of FIFA Collect is the first use case, FIFA noted that additional business applications for its new chain are already in development—though no specific projects have been disclosed yet.
