In Brief:
Solana activates SIMD-0256, raising block limit from 48M to 60M Compute Units, with plans to hit 100M CUs.
Anatoly Yakovenko claims Solana has more capacity than Ethereum and all L2s combined after reaching 1,700 TPS.

Solana cofounder Anatoly Yakovenko has reignited discussion on blockchain scalability after tweeting that "doubling block capacity is easier than BLS vote aggregation economics." His comment followed the mainnet activation of SIMD-0256, a network proposal increasing Solana’s block limit from 48 million to 60 million Compute Units (CUs).

This change boosts Solana’s nonvote transaction throughput, with the network now processing around 1,700 true transactions per second—a new milestone. Yakovenko further claimed that Solana added more capacity than Ethereum and all its Layer-2s combined.

The block increase comes as part of a broader plan to raise the Max Block Units to 100 million, effectively doubling Solana’s block space from the initial limit, enhancing capacity for future growth and usage spikes.

Despite the upgrade, SOL is down 7.53% in the last 24 hours, trading at $186, after briefly surpassing $200. Interest remains high following a steady rise in developer activity over the past two months.
